Thinking of posing as Jack and Rose along the Sarawak river? Titanic fans will have to wait a little longer.
Sarawak’s very own “Titanic,” which is a section of the riverside eatery Warung Pak OJ Selalang, has not been able to open to the public since the beginning of the month.
The 20-meter-long section, shaped like a ship deck, was completed in May using timbre wood and decorative Malaysian and Sarawak state flags. It looks nothing like the 19th century ship that sank in the Atlantic Ocean, but that hasn’t stopped crowds from coming to this humble diner to take photos – until the second lockdown happened.
“I have received calls from eager visitors from far and near, but, I told them to wait until the situation permits,” owner Osman Jelain, who is also a big Titanic fan, told The Star. The two-year-old diner sells local fare like chicken rice and fried noodles. The cafe is serving takeaways due to the lockdown.
The eatery is located in the Sarikei district, 300-kilometers from Kuching city.
The “Titanic” is also where Osman hosts performances and karaoke nights and lights up the place with fairy lights at night. But until the lockdown blows over, all of that will have to wait.
