You see a new single titled ‘Tenangkan Bontot Anda’ (‘Calm Your Ass Down’) and you assume it’s going to be crass, loud and obnoxious. But none of those adjectives describe The Venopian Solitude, the one-woman folk-pop(?) project with a track record of quirkily unique music and often hilarious YouTube videos.
‘Tenangkan Bontot Anda’, from what we can tell, is a celebration of letting go of apprehensions and just being one’s self … themes that fit in well with TVS’s highly distinctive body of work thus far.
The song is eerily sweet, with a catchy lilt that pulls you in and urges you to stay til the end, and the visuals, jointly directed by Junad M Nor and Nadirah Zakariya for Studio Canpakes, are a lush lo-fi fairy tale, dreamily evocative of childhood whimsy. Check it out in full here:
