It seems like Kartel don Joe Flizzow wasn’t just stuntin’ in New York, New York for the video to the AJL-winning single ‘Apa Khabar’ – he set aside some time to shoot another one for ‘Baek’, too.
The new video, released today on Joe’s VEVO account on YouTube, is a more spartan affair compared to ‘Apa Khabar’ – he’s not driving through NYC in an Escalade, and there’s no ghostly apparition of his Too Phat partner Malique in this one. But he’s still got a veritable army of cameos, as per standard operating procedure for hip-hop music videos, and the sight of him rhyming with the Brooklyn Bridge in the background is still cause for celebration for Malaysian hip-hop.
A quick checklist of who’s who in the video: Kartel cohorts SonaOne, DJ Cza, DJ Biggie, DJ AshyAsh, and MC Syze, Joe’s Barbershop head cut chemist (and graffiti artist) Ardy Damis, funnyman and Great Leader of the Republic of North Bangsar Kuah Jenhan, funnyman and non-leader of any republic Nabil, Arabyrd, DJ Goldfish, actresses Sharifah Amani and Nurul Huda, the fine gourmands of the Kulcats Barrio, models Sarah Lian and Nadine Ann Thomas, even street-style photographer and east coast flood documenter Ridduan “ttfga” Ismail – they’re all in there.
Of course, the main focus is on the President himself, and the sparse, ‘A Milli’-like beat he rides on throughout the song. It’s another notch on the capo di tutti capi‘s belt – we’re just swaggering along for the ride.
