Music Video: Dose Two’s ideal KL life is only “A Day Away”

Life in the big city isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be – unless what you’re expecting is a daily slog through unending traffic, a stressful office, and lonely nights in the apartment. Hip-hop duo Dose Two are all about that life, or so it seems, and they’re guessing a lot of KLites have that in common with them.

The group’s new music video for the single “A Day Away” perfectly encapsulates the contemporary Malaysian urban experience: a ceaseless struggle with the pressures of work and (barely) life in the city, all for the promise of a sweet momentary respite from all the concrete.

The visuals from “A Day Away”, coupled with Sayla and QBe’s introspective rhymescapes, attempt to peel away some of the gloss from KL and its supposedly sophisticated lifestyles. It’s not so much fun when you’re living in the city that thinks it has everything, and assumes it deserves to get everything you’ve got.

“A Day Away” was directed and produced by Al Ibrahim, who, when he’s not directing soulful music videos, can be seen tearing up the KL swing dance circuit with the Lindy KL crew. We even have photo documentation of the good director at work play right here.
