Move over, Shila Amzah; looks like there’s a new reality TV talent show darling in China.
Teenager Lee Pei Ling has reportedly made it to the top six of the ‘Sing! China’ singing competition.
According to a report by Oriental Daily, translated by The Star Online, the 15-year-old secured her spot in the top six after a solid rendition of Jolin Tsai’s ballad ‘”Wo Zhi Dao Ni Hen Nan Guo (I Know You Are Very Upset)” on Monday night.
Her progress did not seem to surprise anyone as the Penang-born Pei Ling has, time and time again, wowed the judges since making her debut on the reality show on July 15, Oriental Daily reported.
The talented youngster, who calls herself Jeryl, belted out Daniel Chan’s “Xin You Du Zhong” and her performance impressed the panel of “mentors”, which include the likes of Taiwan’s Jay Chou and Harlem Yu and China’s Wang Feng.
After her impressive performance, she was picked by Na Ying — considered as one of the best present-day female singers in Mainland China — to be on her team, making her Pei Ying’s mentor for the entire duration of the competition.
Well, it looks like Na Ying’s coaching has paid off as Pei Ying will now vie for a place in the top five.
You go, girl!
Formerly known as ‘2016 The Voice of China’ (which is basically an unofficial version of the hit reality show ‘The Voice‘), the singing competition underwent a re-branding exercise after a legal dispute and ‘Sing! China‘ was re-introduced on July 15.
