Live House KL: Bands, comedy and food all in one place

One of the ways in which we, as a community find laughter in, is stand-up comedy.

Stand-up comedy began in the music halls in the United Kingdom within the 18th and 19th century. In the United States however, it began in the late 19th century. Nightclubs and resorts were the main arenas of stand-up comedians, providing them with an extensive and interesting crowd to work their comedy on.

This is basically a comic style in which comedians perform in front of a live audience, usually speaking directly to them. Like a monologue, the comedian would usually recite humorous stories, jokes and one-liners.

Live House Kuala Lumpur is a premier event space that provides a large variety of options for entertainment — stand-up comedy being a headliner. This establishment offers live bands, comedy shows, awesome DJs, a selection of beverages as well as meals from KGB (Killer Gourmet Burgers).

Live House lets its patrons relax in a comfortable environment while enjoying a hilarious night featuring both international and local acts, live bands, best local DJs and mouth-watering burgers alongside other delicacies that KGB has to offer.

Live House is also host to the biggest comedy club available in South East Asia – LOL @ Live House.

Brought together by the leaders of the live comedy scene in Malaysia, LOL Events, the venue seats a very comfortable 160 pax per show. They also offer headliner nights called ‘LOL L!VE’ that feature prominent international and local comedians, every Thursday to Saturday from 8.30pm onwards with tickets available at a mere RM30.

KGB at Live House completes the triple-combo of  live music, gut-busting comedy and great food all under one roof. Among their favourites are options of sharing plates, wings, quesadillas and salads to satisfy all the varied tastes of today’s diners.

This spot accommodates up to about 500 people divided over the two floors. Main Room @ Live House holds space for 225 people (70 dining) while LOL @ Live House is able to cater to 250 individuals (150 seated).

Both rooms are furnished with sound and lighting equipment to cater to most event needs.

We ask Andrew Netto, one of the resident hosts of LOL @ Live House and business development manager of LOL Events some questions to find out more on the laughing side that this upcoming foundation brings to the table of entertainment in Malaysia.

What does stand-up comedy mean to you and how has it helped you progress as part of a role in both your business and social life?

Wow, where do I even begin? It is everything (la), I began performing at the mere age of 19 and I have never since looked back. I love what I do and I hope to do it forever, it did a lot for my social life. Believe it or not, in my younger days I was a quiet kid, but post-puberty I suddenly took a change in my silent character. It came with age, and doing comedy started out as a hobby, which I never knew that it would end up becoming a business.

What memorable acts have you been proudly able to bring forth to this new venue?

As we are relatively new, all our acts we have brought have thus been memorable. I have worked with plenty of amazing acts in the past, so I know the quality they bring. When booking an act, I am hardly worried. In due time, I am looking forward to bring bigger acts to Kuala Lumpur’s shore.

What are some of the upcoming stand-up comedy acts that you’re excited to bring in, and why?

Well, we are looking at bringing much bigger acts in larger venues; we have had the great pleasure to work with the acts of Jeff Dunham and Russell Peters. However, this year we have quite a few tricks rolled up our sleeves, so please stay tuned. As for the club (Live House KL), we are looking at a couple of notable acts but I cannot reveal who just as of yet as nothing is set in stone. Although, feel free to keep yourself updated on our Facebook page: Live House KL.
