Ubisoft, creators of the blockbuster video game franchises Assassin’s Creed, FarCry, and Splinter Cell, will be opening its first-ever indoor theme park in Kuala Lumpur.
The game studio’s movie division, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, has partnered with local theme park developer RSG Group to build a 10,000sq metre theme park based on its video game properties. The complex is slated for a 2020 launch date.
“Ubisoft’s intention for this park is to immerse people in reactive worlds where they can interact with each other and become the heroes of their own life-sized game,” says Jean de Rivières, senior vice president of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, quoted on the game studio’s official blog.
While RSG Group will manage and maintain the theme park, Ubisoft Motion Pictures will have complete control over the content of the attractions.
“Ubisoft will produce all digital media for the rides, and help design guests’ journey into the park to ensure the visitors’ experience is at its best,” says Rivières.
RSG Group chairperson Ramalle Ramlee told The Sun Daily that the development costs for the project were still being tallied.
“We’ve not determined the actual cost for the project as we’re still in discussions in terms of the size and content. In the next three days, Ubisoft and RSG will have a workshop to come out with all the facts and figures,” he said yesterday.
RSG is already involved in a partnership to develop and operate the RM450 million Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS) in Ipoh, which will have licensed attractions based on local and international animated properties such as The Smurfs, Megamind, Casper the Friendly Ghost, and Boboiboy.
