Well, that took long enough.
Long after Malaysians had had quite enough of being jealous of Google fanatics in other countries, the Google Play Movies service has finally set up shop for local audiences.
In a statement published on its (what else?) Google+ page this morning, Google Malaysia announced that the Play Movies service will be selling and renting out feature films, documentaries, and musicals on the Play Store, alongside the already available selection of Android apps, games, and e-books.
Rentals begin at RM10 per movie in Standard Definition (SD), while HD versions will cost slightly more.
Users can also opt to purchase the movies (at a rather steep, DVD-like price range) to keep permanently, and store them on their Google Play accounts for access on their mobile devices, desktops and notebooks, or online streaming devices like the Chromecast or Roku.
Films bought or rented from Play Movies can even be viewed on iOS mobile devices, but there’s a caveat – you won’t be able to watch them in HD there, even if you picked up the high-definition versions. #GooglePlaysForKeeps
The initial rollout seems rather extensive, with classics like Gone With the Wind, the Godfather trilogy, and the Star Wars anthology all on tap, alongside more current blockbuster hits like Kingsman: The Secret Service, Interstellar, and Chappie.
If you’re ready to start your (legal) digital movie collection in the cloud, head over to the Play Store and start flexing that credit card.
