Fifty Shades of Nope: Erotic film banned in Malaysia

You can’t watch Fifty Shades of Grey in Malaysia. And that’s because the Malaysian Film Censorship Board (LPF) has decided that it is ‘unfit’ for us Malaysians.

The film — well hyped for its racy storyline involving bondage sex — was set for a release on Feb 12, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

LPF chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Abdul Hamid was quoted by The Star Online as saying that the film was more ‘pornography than a movie’.

“The board made a decision in view of the film’s scenes that are not of natural sexual content, that features scenes of a woman being tied to a bed and whipped,” he was quoted as saying.

The film, starring Jamie Dornanand Dakota Johnson, tells the story of Ana Steele, a literature student, who finds herself wrapped up in the dark world of wealthy businessman Christian Grey’s secret fetishes.
