We now step into the second quarter of the year, with two weeks of all pure stage events and club music celebrations — presenting legendary stories to international acts, and more great shows from our friends at The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre and Under9 KL, as well as other exciting performances and electro-music parties across the Klang Valley, destined to make April awesome!

WEEK 1 (MARCH 30 TO APRIL 5)

Monday, March 30th

ANUGERAH HIJAU LAUNCH @ THE SQUARE, PUBLIKA, KL

Anugerah Hijau (Green Awards) challenges young adult’s creativity and innovation to address environmental issues, with its 7th edition of an annual nationwide competition organized by the non-profit EcoKnights and its collaborative partners and sponsors, with three categories of competition:

1. Green Space – designing an eco-friendly, replicable, and efficient emergency evacuation center.
2. Green Music – Compose, produce, and perform an environmentally themed song
3. Green Innovation – Produce a marketable product using upcycled materials

EcoKnights invites everyone to be part of the solution at the launch of Anugerah Hijau, with up to RM 20,000 cash and prizes for grabs. What does a season of Anugerah Hijau feels like? Check this out.

Wednesday, April 1st

PASTEL LITE @ PISCO BAR, KL

Our local pride Eff and Faliq comes together as Pastel Lite, to celebrate the release of their debut album ‘Etcetera’ with a subtle synth pop and electron fusion set, having performed at St Jerome’s Laneway Festival in Singapore and Urbanscapes. Expect a night of limitless sound and soft melodies. Their hypnotic sounds will transport you to enigma!

SADAKO AND THE ONE THOUSAND PAPER CRANES @ PUSAT KREATIF KANAK-KANAK TUANKU BAINUN, KL

One of the most endearing children’s books, written by Eleanor Coerr and based on the true story of Sadako Sasaki, comes to life in a special performance of Sadako and The Thousand Paper Cranes, commemorating the courage and passion that made one young girl a heroine and legend in Japan. 

Featuring Bradley Lim, Diana Fatimah Ahmad Sahani, Eugene Mahalingam, Fergus Tighe, Lew Shu Ni, Megat Iskandar Abdullah, Salome Sosa, Sia Szi Chen, Vilashiiney K. Paneerselvam, Wong Su Ting.

KL URBAN MUSIC & ART FESTIVAL’S EDM ROCKSTAR 2015 @ KL TOWER, KL

UDA DAN DARA @ KLPAC, KL

Udadan Dara 2015 is a tribute to National Laureate Usman Awang, in a retalling of the evergreen Malaysian story of star-crossed lovers Dara, a young woman from an affluent family and Uda, a young man born into hardship, in a relationship driven by circumstances yet upholding their love, in a story that transcends notions of wealth, class, and – in this adaptation – culture and ethnicity.

Sypnosis: A young Chinese man heads to the city lights of Kuala Lumpur with his single mother in search for greener pastures, and later falls in love with the daughter of an affluent Malay family, causing a divide between class and culture, with the reality of life adding strains to their lives.

The story revolves around attempts to produce a ‘sure-fire-hit’ type film with a very big star, or an enlightening, philosophical, intellectually rewarding movie. With a little sexual blackmail in the shape of an ambitious personal assistant, the verbal fencing between the two producers, Bobby and Charlie is quick, witty, outrageous and ridiculously funny.  Featuring actor-director Gavin Yap, stand-up comedian extraordinaire Douglas Lim and actress/model/emcee/TV host Amelia Henderson.

OHRWURM PRESENTS BLOND:ISH @ NAGABA KL 

Anstascia & Vivie-Ann, from the naughty Kompakt and Get Physical families, bring their fun loving antics and attitude with Ohwurm, being on decks for the night to display their sensual club styled electronic music, and party remixes of classic club beats that made even Depeche Mode proud. Take a listen to their outrageous electro-wonders.

NAGA WOMEN @ DPAC, PJ

The stories of three powerful women are presented in a special performance telling their stories that debunk the notion of gender stereotypes and patriarchy, showing that in many circumstances, having to plough through more as women, the “weaker” sex sometimes is by far the more superior.

Produced by the Masakini Theatre Company, it features performances such as:

Eleni of Sparta (Helen of Troy) by India’s well known dancer, Rajika Puri
Puteri Saadong by Malaysia’s Sabera Shaik
A Million Sitas by India’s famous dancer/actor, Anita Ratnam
