It is the time of year again where our Muslim brothers and sisters all around the world usher in the holy month of Ramadhan.
However, in Malaysia, the start of the month of Ramadhan also signals the time where Malaysians from all walks of life scour the streets for the best bazaar food.
Having said that, it is very difficult to separate the best Bazaar Ramadhan food from the rest. While you and your friends can continue debating on which Bazaar Ramadhan serves up the best murtabak or roast lamb, we came up with a list of six unique Bazaar Ramadhan foods you must try:

1) Murtabak Maggi
Where: Bazaar Ramadhan Taman Tun Dr. Ismail
We’ve heard of Murtabak Mutton and Murtabak Daging, but Murtabak Maggi? This is definitely a modern-day twist to two long-time Malaysian favourite dishes – murtabak and Maggi mee. If you are a fan of instant noodles, this dish is right up your alley.

2) Murtabak Roti Jala
Where: Bazaar Ramadhan Bangsar
Speaking of murtabaks and hybrid Malaysian dishes, another must-try bazaar Ramadhan dish is the Murtabak Roti Jala. Located at the Bangsar bazaar, this unique dish is actually a type of chicken or beef murtabak wrapped in a layer of lacy roti jala. If you’re bored with the regular murtabaks, give this one a try.

3) Roti John Kambing
Where: Shah Alam Stadium Bazaar
The Bazaar Ramadhan at Shah Alam Stadium is one of the biggest bazaars in Malaysia, so how do you stand out from the rest of the stalls? Easy; you serve the best Roti John in the country! According to legends, Papa John’s Roti John Kambing is said to be “a class above the other ‘Roti Johns’”. But consider yourself warned; there’s usually a very long queue in front of the stall, so be there early or be square.

4) Putu bambu
Where: Bazaar Ramadhan Kampung Baru
If you’ve got a sweet tooth, then you must give the putu bambu a try. Located at the Kampung Baru bazaar, this sweet snack is made with a combination of pati pandan and gula melaka, and it is served with fresh coconut shreds.

5) Roti Goreng McGyver
Where: Bazaar Ramadhan Kampung Baru
The Roti Goreng McGyver is the star of the Kampung Ramadhan Bazaar, in part due to its monicker. Named after the popular 80s TV character (although we can’t see the connection, to be honest), the Roti Goreng McGyver is a bun stuffed with meat, wrapped with popiah skin and then deep-fried in a pan. You can choose from a wide variety of fillings: chicken or beef curry, black pepper chicken or beef and sardine sambal, just to name a few.

6) Popiah Power
Where: Bazaar Ramadhan Taman Tun Dr. Ismail
There’s your normal popiah, and then there’s the Popiah Power. Located at the TTDI Bazaar Ramadhan, Pak Yah’s Popiah Power is a hit with bazaar-goers. The Popiah Power is stuffed with a combination of fresh bean sprouts, prawns and julienned turnip, and drizzled in a sweet and spicy red sauce for extra ‘power’. Fun fact: Pak Yah sells up to 11,000 popiahs a day.
