Fast-food giant McDonald’s can’t get a break: not only is the restaurant chain suffering from a increasingly popular boycott campaign, it now has to clear the air about a rumour that it will be giving out burgers and drinks for free this Friday.
McDonald’s Malaysia took to its official Facebook page last night to deny issuing any such announcement:
“We would like to clarify that the notices on free McDonald’s food posted on Facebook were NOT issued by McDonald’s, and we are unable to honour it. It is a hoax produced by an irresponsible party,” the statement reads.
This follows a mounting call by Malaysians online to boycott the fast-ffood chain, over its alleged ties and support for the government of Israel, which is currently the ire of netizens worldwide, especially in Muslim-majority countries, over its latest military offensive against Hamas forces in Gaza.
Alongside the fake announcement of free food and drinks, there ahve also been calls for a block one-day boycott of McDonald’s this Friday.
