Coconuts Hot Spot: Why Epicuro gives you the best value pork chops in town

COCONUTS HOT SPOT — Whenever I get cravings for pork chops, I find myself on auto mode steering towards Epicuro.

This casual cosy little restaurant in Damansara Uptown has been pulling in the crowds for its delicious porky offerings. Located in the quieter part of Uptown, Epicuro is run and co-owned by an ex-engineer-turned-chef who’s very passionate about his food.

The bestseller here, which also is my personal favourite is their Pork Chops (pic).  The tender succulent pork chops are served drenched with a tasty creamy mushroom sauce.  The secret lies in the brining of the chops prior to grilling and that’s why they are so tender, juicy and tasty.   The pork chops are served with potato bacon salad and some fresh greens by the side.  All these for RM28.90 which makes this one of the best-value pork chops ever!

Besides the pork chops, the next best thing to order is the Lamb Shank (RM39.90) especially if you are a lamb lover.  Served on a bed of cauliflower puree studded with tender slices of carrot, the perfectly braised shank is bathed with a light tomato-based gravy.  Holding its shape prettily on the cauliflower puree, the shank disintegrates easily one you dig into it. The flavours are kept light and tomatoey with no overwhelming herbs or spices.


Although Im not a fan of carbonara, I must say the Spaghetti Carbonara (RM18.90) in Epicuro is pretty impressive.  Tossed in a cream sauce dotted with bacon bits and topped with a slow poached egg, this pasta dish is a crowd favourite and my fellow foodie friends swear it’s one of the best carbonara dishes this side of town.


For a spot of casual dining, go for their Pulled Pork Sandwich.  The delicately-flavoured pulled pork and tangy coleslaw are tucked in between slices of a long bun with plenty of fresh greens by the side.  It’s RM15.90 for this wholesome sandwich, add on another RM1 for a sunnyside-up egg!


I usually call ahead to reserve their Tiramisu ((RM13.90) because they run out very fast.  I never leave Epicuro without having their Tiramisu which is doused generously with copious amounts of alcohol. I’m not kidding when I say they don’t stinge on the alcohol – it’s one of the best tiramisu I’ve had in quite a while with an insanely addictive boozy kick.
