Cops arrest seven perps, seize RM2 million worth of drugs in a week

The federal narcotics arm of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) landed a major hit as it seized RM2.1 million worth of heroin and Ecstasy pills in three separate cases over the past week..

The Malay Mail Online reports that according to Bukit Aman narcotics chief Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim, the cops’ first seizure took place last Thursday with the detention of two Pakistani nationals at the KLIA.

The duo, believed to be drug mules, were attempting to smuggle in four packets of heroin, weighing in at a total of 6.3kg.

“They tried to smuggle it by strapping the packets of heroin to the back of their shins. This is possibly a new tactic used by the drug mules,” he said.

The men had travelled from Lahore to Bangkok before arriving at KLIA.

Sunday saw two seizures, with the first taking place at 6.10pm near Hutan Rimba Ampang.

“Following a tip-off, we trailed a vehicle and intercepted them near Ampang. Three Malaysians and a Sri Lankan national were arrested after drugs were found in the vehicle,” Noor Rashid said.

The raid saw the confiscation of two bags containing 9.120 Ecstasy pills weighing 2.7kg and three bags containing 8,400 Eramin pills weighing 2.3kg.

The second case on Sunday saw the arrest of a 39-year old leader of a local drug syndicate in Cheras.

“After interrogating the suspect, we raided a home in Bukit Damansara and seized 9,400 Ecstasy pills weighing 2.8kg and 2kg of syabu,” he said.

Noor Rashid said those arrested, aged between 21 and 39, had been remanded for seven days under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
