Weekend guide to Wong Amat: Pattaya’s chill beachside neighborhood

Presented by

Charming cafes, trendsetting restaurants, beautiful spas and white sand beaches. It might not be what comes to mind when you think of Pattaya, but this is exactly what you’ll find in Wong Amat.

Just north of Jom Tien, Wong Amat is the perfect place for a weekend escape from Bangkok. But with the beachy vibes, a cool crowd of in-the-know locals and gorgeous beaches just a speedboat ride away, one weekend might not be enough.

Start the day off with breakfast at the charming French cafe La Baguette. This Parisian style cafe has been hand making delicious croissants since 1998. Try the warm spinach quiche or a savory crepe and nicoise salad. For something sweet go for the crème brûlée or strawberry tart with a frothy latte. The room is drenched in natural sunlight and the ambiance is relaxed and cheerful.

One of the best things about Wong Amat is being close to beautiful islands. Koh Phai, just a little farther offshore than Koh Larn, is a white sand paradise. This small island chain is just 23 km from the coast, but since it can take up to 2 hours to reach, it has remained pretty secluded. Bring a book and a blanket and relax on the white sand or go snorkeling in the coral reefs. There’s even a nearby shipwreck, the HTMS Khram, which is one of the best scuba diving sites in the area.

The Eforea Spa is gorgeous – just what you would expect from Pattaya’s most luxurious 5 star hotel. The attention to detail here is amazing and you’ll feel it from the moment you enter. The expert team provides a large range of treatments, from body scrubs, to facials, massages and more. The luxury here is in the customization. You can choose to have any treatment tailored to your needs.

The Sanctuary of Truth is a relatively new Thai monument, but nonetheless breathtaking. The gigantic wooden temple started construction in 1981, but it’s not finished yet. The intricate carving, which depicts Buddhist and Hindu motifs, will be completed in 2050. Yes, those are some very detailed carvings. Here you can take in the beautiful views of the ocean and get a new appreciation for Thai culture.

Siam Country Club is arguably Thailand’s most famous golf course. Built in 1971, it was the first privately owned course in the country. It underwent a complete renovation in 2006 and 2007 by famed American golf course architects Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley. The Old Course is particularly well known. With the beautiful trees and plants, it looks as much like an orchard as a golf course.

One of the most unique venues in Pattaya is Sky Gallery. This restaurant/bar on the beach has a laid-back lounge vibe and a crowd that consists of cool locals as well as a few savvy tourists and expats. Have a few cocktails and watch the sun go down. Take your time ordering from the menu of home-style Thai and fusion food. The relaxed vibe is the perfect way to end a day in Wong Amat.

Can you imagine a laid back weekend with all of this right at your doorstep? This weekend escape could be your reality every day at Sansiri’s condominium, Baan Plai Haad.

Baan Plai Haad is situated in Wong Amat, right in the heart of Na Klua, Pattaya and it’s ready to move in now. Visit Sansiri’s website for more details.
