Rock me Amadeus! Phoenix to play AsiaWorld Expo in January

In one of Hong Kong’s biggest indie-rock triumphs, Phoenix has announced a concert at the AsiaWorld Expo on January 19th. The Versailles-native indie favorite has been churning out addictive tunes since their first album United, but they gained big fame after the 2009 release of Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. (Apple’s ubiquitous use of their pink album cover didn’t hurt.)

Big indie-rock names are a rare find in Hong Kong – more so than in Singapore, Tokyo or Taipei. The show’s organizer, Your Mum, is responsible for most past indie concerts including Grimes, Yacht, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. The show is sure to sell-out.

Unfortunately, Phoenix is set to play at AsiaWorld Expo, a charmless arena at the end of the Airport Express line. Fans on Facebook are already complaining.

Bongalow Retrolab writes, “WOW! Phoenix! SHIT ~~~ Asiaworld Expo…”

Phoenix released a new album last year, Bankrupt!, so expect to hear new tunes alongside old favorites like “Lisztomania” and “1901.”

Tickets go on sale October 15th $680 and General Advance for $780 at www.hkticketing.com; Early Bird tickets go for HKD680 and General Advance for HKD780.
