How do you like your dough?

Probably not half-fermented on a Hong Kong sidewalk, but that’s exactly how a giant slab was left outside a pizza delivery shop on Wednesday morning.

Pizza-Box, the culpable pizza chain, has since apologized on Facebook. “Staff did not follow the company’s procedures accordingly, causing the rubbish to be left at the entrance of the store.”

It said that the company has already given warnings to the workers involved, and that they will offer more staff training on how to handle waste.

The case of the poorly disposed dough came to light when a Facebook user posted a photo taken by Pizza-Box’s Prince Edward branch.

Taking up half the width of the sidewalk, the massive dough block—wrapped in a black rubbish bag—laid outside the half-shuttered shows, the picture, taken just before 10 am on Wednesday, shows.

“The entire slab of dough was just dumped like this, very scary!” The post’s caption read.

Hygiene concerns were naturally raised in the comments, with some wondering whether the dough would be salvaged and used to make pizza.

But most Facebook users were more interested in debating what oblong-shaped food item the dough most closely resembled.

“It looks like a giant seaweed rice cracker,” one person said.

Judging by the likes on the comments, most people seemed to agree that the meter-long slab looked like a disproportionately sized sushi roll.

Pizza-Box is one of the larger pizza delivery chains in Hong Kong with 11 locations in the city, according to its Facebook page. It is a former franchisee of US pizza restaurant chain Domino’s Pizza.
