Young womans’s face disfigured after removing wisdom teeth

A 26-year-old woman went to a dental clinic in Tseung Kwan O last year to pull out her wisdom teeth, paying HK$800 for the procedure. After pulling out her wisdom teeth however, her face swelled up with pain, making it hard to open her mouth and the evacuation site was infected and started leaking pus.

After putting up with it for a month, she was referred to the Prince Philip Dental Hospital where they confirmed that the joints of her teeth have locked up and needs surgery to re-open them, leaving 6cm long scars on her face. Traumatised by the experience, the woman suspected incompetence on the part of the dental clinic and lodged a complaint to the Dental Council.

Moral of the story: don’t try and scrimp on dental procedures!
