A young mother bought a packet of made in Taiwan facial masks from a drug store on sale for HK$25, however, the masks caused pain and burns on her face.
After purchasing them last month, the young mom tried the facial mask at home and put it on for only eight minutes despite the box’s instructions to leave it on for 15 minutes. She fell asleep after taking the mask off, and woke up two hours later with a burning pain on her face. When she looked in the mirror, her face was red and swollen.
When she consulted a doctor, the doctor said that she had suffered chemical burns from the preservative in the mask, methylisothiazolinone. The makers of the mask have pulled the product from shelves in Hong Kong and compensated the woman HK$1,000, but the product is still selling in China and overseas.
The mother has been medically treated for a month now but still suffer from unsightly red patches around her eyes.
