A young woman suffered major fractures to both her legs after she fell onto the railway track at Kowloon Tong MTR station and was run over by a train around midnight last night.
The 17-year-old girl, who is reportedly a Taekwando athlete who represents Hong Kong, had been standing on the Kowloon Tong station platform prior the incident, Headline Daily reports.
CCTV footage shows that shortly after midnight, the young woman appeared to suddenly jump onto the tracks as a Sheung Shui-bound pulled into station.
A station officer immediately pressed the emergency train stop and called other staff members, the police, firemen and Urban Search and Rescue Team officers for help, a spokesperson for the MTR Corp said.
The teenager was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit in Yau Ma Tei, where she is said to be in stable condition. It is still unknown if her legs, which were nearly severed, can be saved.
Services between Hung Hom and Tai Wai station were suspended until around 1:10 am, and Sheung Shui-bound trains at Tai Wai station were running at a 15-minute interval.
