Cathay pilot and soon-to-be Hongkonger Michael Medley was tickled pink when he received a Cantonese phrasebook from his Secret Santa this year.
The book came with a set of international beers (disappointingly, no Tsing Tao) and a postcard, on which Medley’s mysterious benefactor said that page 137 and 138 would “be of use in Honkers”.
Unsurprisingly the pages in question were appropriately marked “sex”, and the now-enlightened pilot helpfully shared the tips on social media – they could be useful for some of the more hopeless Wan Chai patrons out there. Our favourite is page 138, which, Medley humorously pointed out, plays like a disastrous one night stand.
Medley’s bawdy humour and appreciation for liquor makes us think he’ll settle into Hong Kong life just fine. We hope he’s given a warm welcome in February, although he may have to play it safe with some of those phrases at the start…
