We all make spelling mistakes — sometimes even publicly *cough* — but let’s all take a moment of silence for the poor person who recently spent hours carefully painting the words “Cathay Paciic” on the side of one of Hong Kong’s flagship carrier’s Boeing 777s.

While we don’t know precisely when the mistake happened, by this morning, pics of the dreaded missing “F” was circulating on a closed Facebook group for aviation enthusiasts called, aptly enough, the Hong Kong Aviation Discussion Board. Attempts to hurriedly cover up the typo were caught by Chinese-language site Stand News, but it was all too little too late.

Full credit to the airline, by the way, which owned up to the mistake by posting on their Facebook page: “Oops this special livery won’t last long! She’s going back to the shop!”

It’s not clear who was responsible for the typo or how it happened.

Many netizens praised Cathay Pacific for how their PR team handled the mishap, though some people jokingly suggested they were a bit upset they’d now never get to see the misspelling in all it’s glory.

One person suggested that rather than repainting the plane’s exterior, they could have simply done this:
