A 62-year-old woman who was caught on camera pushing a trolley inside the Cross Harbour Tunnel this morning has dementia, her husband has confirmed.

According to on.cc, video posted online shows the woman, surnamed Chan, wearing a pink jacket and pushing a trolley containing two cardboard boxes in the middle of the tunnel at about 10am this morning.

After receiving a report from tunnel staff, police apprehended Chan as she exited the tunnel on the Kowloon side, and took her to Wan Chai police station.

Chan’s husband, surnamed Leung, arrived at the police station to collect her, and told reporters that his wife was meant to deliver the boxes — which on.cc reported contained Chinese medicine — from Sheung Wan to Central, and that this is the first time something like this has happened.

Apple Daily reported that the couple run a dried-goods shop.

According to the newspaper, any unauthorized persons found walking inside the tunnel can face six months in jail and a HK$5,000 (US$639), though one can assume no such punishment is coming in this case.
