Woman running discounted phones and tickets scam jailed in Hong Kong

A Hong Kong woman who swindled victims out of almost HKD4.6 million while on bail for another fraud case has been jailed for two years and eight months.

Yeung Shun-yi, also known as Florence Yeung (because it pays to have multiple identities when you’re scamming people), won the trust of her marks by at first providing them with discounted phones and concert tickets.

It was only when they came back with bigger orders that she seemingly vanished off the face of the Earth with their cash.

The court heard on Thursday how the 46-year-old, who was otherwise unemployed, duped a couple looking to buy a bulk load of Apple products out of HKD2.3 million, among other offences.

She pleaded guilty to nine counts of fraud but said she would be unable to pay any of the victims back.

According to the SCMP, at the time of the crimes between August and December 2012, Yeung was on bail  for another fraud case. She spent more than two years behind bars subsequently.

You can’t knock her work ethic.
