A woman photographed apparently placing a child in a rubbish bin at Hong Kong MTR Station as a form of punishment has sparked anger (and confusion) from netizens.
The incident, which reportedly took place at 4:54pm yesterday, was shared to the popular HK Incident Facebook group.
The uploader, Betty Hong, said, “The kid’s not pooping, he’s being punished. There were two women and one man, all of whom were speaking Cantonese. They cursed at passersby who tried to intervene.”
You’ve got to wonder what the world’s come to when you have to clarify that someone is not pooping in public.
While a large portion of the comments were devoted to debating whether the woman was from Hong Kong or mainland China, the consensus amongst commenters was that her treatment of the child was unacceptable, regardless of her nationality.

Perhaps not totally off the mark. Photo: Trash, by Joan Cornellà
One person tried to lighten the mood by comparing the bizarre situation to the dark humour of Spanish comic artist Joan Cornellà, who recently held an exhibition in North Point.
