A female hiker was discharged from hospital yesterday after she was airlifted from one of the city’s most challenging hiking trails.
The hiker was a 53-year-old woman surnamed Lee who was on a trek with five other people on Kau Nga Ling in Lantau Island.
Just after 1pm, Lee slipped and injured her head during a fall, HK01 reports.
The Government Flying Service (GFS) airlifted Lee to Eastern Hospital for treatment, she was discharged shortly afterwards. The website reports that Lee’s five other hiking companions were safe.
Kau Nga Ling — which literally translates to “dog teeth range” because of its thin and rugged mountain ridge — is known as one of the toughest hiking trails in Hong Kong.
The trail promises scenic views, but those who are attempting to climb it should be physically fit first. A number of websites warn that it can be windy once you get to the ridges, and that hikers need to watch their step as there are broken rocks that can be unstable.
In November, a 69-year-old man died after slipping while navigating a very narrow trail in the area that is ominously nicknamed “a slim chance of survival.”
