Woman dies after hanging, burning charcoal in Yau Tong

At approximately 9pm yesterday evening, residents in a Yau Tong apartment complex called police after they noticed smoke billowing out of an apartment.

Upon entering the unit, emergency personnel found a woman hanging from a noose made out of a belt in the bathroom, and a bowl of charcoal which had been lit in the bedroom.

The woman, aged 44, was rushed to the hospital but could not be resuscitated.

Oriental Daily reports that no suicide note was found, but the deceased’s husband told police that the couple had been suffering from financial and marital problems.

It is reported that 30 of the couple’s neighbours believed that their apartment was on fire, and evacuated the premises.

If you are experiencing depression or suicidal thoughts, please call the Samaritans’ 24-hour hotline at (+852) 2896-0000 for help.
