A woman is still in a critical condition after she was caught under the wheels of a double decker bus yesterday morning.

According to on.cc, a 49-year-old woman surnamed Lai was hit by the 49X double decker bus at around 9:50am yesterday as she was crossing the road at the Cheung On bus terminus in Tsing Yi near the Cheung Fat estate.

Fire services arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and took Lai to Princess Margaret Hospital in an unconscious state. Apple Daily reported that Lai sustained injuries to her head, chest, and pelvis, and her leg and nose were bleeding.

An eye witness, known only as Ken, told Apple Daily that he heard a bang noise, and other passengers tell a the driver “stop the bus, there’s a person under the wheel!”

He added that the bus driver let the passengers out of the door at the front of the bus instead of the middle exit doors, which had stopped working.

Lai, meanwhile, was still trapped underneath the front left wheel of the bus underneath the door.

Ken told the newspaper: “When you’ve got a lot of weight pushing down on someone, that has to have an effect.”

The 61-year-old bus driver surnamed Tang is assisting police. Kowloon Motorbus confirmed they would cooperate with the police investigation into how the accident happened.
