Woman convicted of using her breast to assault police spared jail, gets 200 hours of community service

Ng Lai-ying, the Hong Kong woman who made headlines when she was convicted for assaulting a police officer with her breast, has successfully overturned her jail sentence.

The 31-year-old will now serve 200 hours of community service instead of spending three-and-a-half months in jail.

In High Court today, Judge Judianna Barnes cited Ng’s “good conduct” and her boss’ positive testimony for the reduced sentence, HKFP reports

The “breast assault” took place during a protest against parallel traders in Yuen Long last March. Ng testified in court that Chief Inspector Chan Ka-po had placed his hand on the upper part of her left breast, after which she shouted “police indecent assault”.

Ng said she was pushed to the ground and injured, and she was seen with blood on her face prior to her arrest. Police officers serving as witnesses in court said Ng had fallen down of her own accord and rubbed the blood on her face.

In court last month, Judge Barnes noted that video footage showed that Ng had assaulted Chan in an apparent attempt to help her boyfriend, 21-year-old Kwong Chun-lung.
