Yesterday, a 25-year-old woman committed suicide in the Yuen Long home she shared with her boyfriend after she sent him a photo of charcoal via WhatsApp.
The woman, surnamed Zhong, had reportedly been worried that her boyfriend of seven years was cheating after he added a female Facebook friend, according to Apple Daily and Oriental Daily.
At 3am the day before yesterday, the woman, a store clerk at H&M, sent a photo of charcoal – a common method of committing suicide in Hong Kong – to her boyfriend through WhatsApp.
At 1am yesterday, the boyfriend, aged 26 and surnamed Wong, returned to their home in Fui Sha Wai village and found Zhong unconscious next to burnt charcoal – 22 hours after she had sent him the message.
He called the police and Zhong was rushed to hospital, where she was declared dead.
