A poor poodle is missing a bit of his tongue after its owner took it to a dog groomer in Siu Sai Wan earlier this month, reports Oriental Daily. After the owner complained online and asked for compensation, the dog groomer accused her of extortion and threatened to involve the police.
The owner, surnamed Wong, claims that the pet shop confessed to her that one of their staff, a non-licensed dog groomer, had accidentally injured the dog.
The unfortunate pup is now missing a “V-shaped” piece from the tip of its tongue.
On Sep. 17, Wong took the dog to the vet, who said that the cut was close to an artery. Had the aorta been punctured, heavy bleeding could have occurred.
Wong claims Kaka was weak and tired after the incident.
The understandably ticked-off owner has demanded that the dog grooming shop give her HKD5,000 in compensation, claiming that the medical bills cost over HKD1,000.
In response, the dog groomer said that the client signed a liability waiver, and that there is no evidence one of their staff had cut the pooch’s tongue.
They added that the owner’s HKD5,000 demand amounted to extortion, and threatened to involve the police.
When Kaka’s owner’s complaint was shared widely on Facebook, netizens sided with Wong, with some saying that HKD5,000 compensation is not enough.
“If you go to get a haircut and the hairdresser cuts off a bit of your ear, how would it not be the hairdresser’s fault?” said one.
“It breaks my heart to see the little dog get hurt. We can’t let these kinds of bad stores get away with this,” said another.

Note: This article previously stated the cut was close to the aorta. That is incorrect. The cut was reportedly near an artery.
