A woman allegedly attacked her husband with a meat cleaver after he complained that the home was a mess — rather than doing anything to rectify the situation himself.

Police arrested the woman, a 42-year-old surnamed Pu, on Tuesday evening at her home at the Oi Man Estate in Ho Man Tin.

According to a Ming Pao report from yesterday, Pu appeared in Kowloon City Magistrate’s Court, where the magistrate decided to postpone the hearing until March 7.

The incident came about because Pu was reportedly fed up with her 60-year-old husband, surnamed Leung, for not helping with the housework.

At about 10pm on Tuesday, Leung came home from work and began to complain that the house was messy, pointing to a pile of his clothes that were cleaned two days prior but not yet folded.

The remark, according to Apple Daily, sent Pu into a rage, prompting her grab a meat cleaver from the kitchen and attack Leung.

Leung reportedly managed to fight off his wife, knocking the meat cleaver out of her hand and trapping it under his foot — but not before sustaining cuts to his left arm and shoulder.

He then called the police, who arrested Pu and sent him to the hospital for treatment.

Apple Daily reports that Leung comes from Guangzhou, and that Pu — also from the mainland — is his third wife.

Correction: A previous version of this story used an alternate spelling of the husband’s surname. The appropriate transliteration is Leung, not Liang. Coconuts HK apologizes for any confusion caused.
