Police have arrested a 40-year-old woman after she was caught on camera hitting an elderly woman on the head with a broom in the middle of a busy street in Sham Shui Po yesterday.
The reason? She was annoyed with the elderly woman’s singing.
The suspect surnamed Tam was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, after she picked up a fight with a 69-year-old woman surnamed Ip at the intersection between Yu Chau Street and Kweilin Street at about 3pm.
Video published by Apple Daily shows Tam at first hit the elderly woman with some flowers she was holding, as passers-by tell her to back off because the granny has not committed a crime.

Tam can be seen getting increasingly irate which culminates in her overturning the granny’s cart — which contained cardboard, peanuts, and groceries — grabbing a broom from a nearby stall and hitting her on the head with it.
At one point in the video the granny — head bleeding and holding a foldable stool — can be heard asking bystanders if she should hit her attacker, everyone responds “don’t hit her, you’re bleeding.”
An eyewitness surnamed Cheng told Apple Daily that the granny did not strike back, and police officers arrived at the scene five minutes later to arrest Tam.
On.cc reports that an ambulance was also at the scene to take Ip to the hospital, where she received treatment for head, neck, and hand injuries.
