Woman, 30, arrested in Cheung Chau on suspicion of killing baby with violent shaking

Hong Kong police have laid a holding charged of murder against a 30-year-old woman who is accused of violently shaking her two-month-old baby, causing it’s death on Tuesday.

The woman’s 31-year-old sister was also arrested for misleading police officers.

Police were called to the house in Tai San Back Street, Cheung Chau, at around 5:45pm on Tuesday by the mother, who said her only son, Matthew Lee Man-hin, had collapsed.

The boy was sent to hospital in an unconscious state and certified dead around an hour later.

“Initial investigations revealed the baby was slapped and thrown into a baby cot before being shaken violently,” a police source told the SCMP, adding that the boy had bleeding on the brain.

The unemployed woman’s husband reportedly moved out of the flat about a month ago.

The case will be mentioned at the Eastern Magistrates’ Court today, while the sister has been bailed and is required to report back to police in mid-September.
