Because that’s what some parents are doing!
At top schools like St Paul’s Co-educational College, as many as 3,200 people compete for 140 spots, and some parents are taking desperate measures to secure a spot for their kids.
Recently, St Paul’s Co-educational College and some other famous schools have published an advertisement for janitors at their secondary and primary schools. Since the Education Board has decreed that schools must allow children of their employees into the school for Primary 1, parents are applying to these janitor jobs in the hopes of getting a foot in the door.
Candidates is only required to have primary level education and if hired can earn about HK$10,000 a month — which would be quite a mismatch to wealthy parents, often the types who apply to these schools.
