A 37-year-old woman, believed to be severely depressed after losing her husband to cancer two months ago, jumped to her death on Sunday while her son was asleep in the next room.
Residents of Sau Mau Ping public housing estate in Kwun Tong heard a loud bang before finding the woman, surnamed Wong, slumped over an air conditioner on the building’s first floor.
She was rushed to hospital where she was declared dead.
Her six-year-old son, who was reportedly asleep in the apartment when his mother jumped, was taken to the police station before being released into the care of his aunt.
EJI reports that the boy was heard saying “Mama, I’ll study hard and be a good boy” at the funeral.
