The Sing Tao Daily reports scalpers have been recently selling large quantities of Guangdong Through Train tickets online, an activity that’s rather unusual.
The Guangdong Through Train is an intercity railway service between Hong Kong and Guangzhou. The tickets have recently been exceptionally hard to come by, especially trains scheduled to depart in the morning.
However, some passengers have found that the resell tickets can be easily found online, but at a premium price. The price of a ticket normally worth RMB150 will be available online at about RMB155 to RMB180 – the cost includes free delivery service within the Guangzhou area.
It is suspected that scalpers may be colluding with railway station staff, so they get the popular tickets before anyone else, or even before they are on sale to the public. Customers are asking the Guangzhou Railway Police carry out an in-depth investigation to see if any illegal activity is going on.
