Whoops: Electricity pylon explodes, causes massive blackout from Wong Tai Sin to Tseung Kwan O

Last night around 10 pm, an electricity pylon in Kowloon Peak caught on fire and exploded, causing a power blackout affecting Wong Tai Sin, Kwun Tong, Kowloon Bay, Ngau Tau Kok, Yau Tong and Tseung Kwan O—a pretty sizeable chunk of Hong Kong, reports the SCMP. To give you an idea about just how big, there are roughly 11 MTR stops within those areas by our estimates. The firemen had it under control in about an hour, right around the time power came back on.

There were 20 reports of people getting stuck in elevators (worst nightmare, anyone?), some of which had to be rescued by the fire department. Thankfully no one was baked or steamed alive in the ovens those elevators were sure to become.
