The wheel deal: Get paid HKD62,000 to intern at a racecourse pit stop for 5 days

Calling all job-seeking F1 fans in Hong Kong. This is the internship of your dreams!

British racer Dan Wells is looking for a local enthusiast to help prepare him for an entry-level race in Malaysia next spring preceding the Formula One competition.

The intern’s duties will include manning a pit stop during the race and helping the driver with his schedule, nutrition, water intake, the lot! The programme is expected to last five days, for which you’ll receive a cool HKD62,000.

A driver for Hong Kong team BlackArts Racing, 24-year-old Wells placed second in the 2011 Formula Renault UK Finals Series and at the 2012 Formula Pilota China, so you can expect to learn quite a bit from this speedy stud.

Even before the internship begins, the winner will receive a paid trip to watch the Formula One Grand Prix in Tokyo this September and a one-day training session at a Zhuhai racecourse.

The job sounds swell, but getting it is no piece of cake. Applicants need to first send a 200-word description of why they’re passionate about the job (probably best not to mention the massive amounts of cash) to sales@blackartsracing.com.

Then finalists will then be selected for an interview and a written test on race rules.

However, the intern will ultimately be inexplicably chosen by shoppers at a Sha Tin mall, which is co-organising the event, because democracy is just so damned hot in Hong Kong these days.

Sounds like the coolest internship in town… save for that of yours truly at Coconuts HK (wink, wink).
