Watch out! Octopus is ripping everyone off!

After Octopus revealed last May that it had been steadily over-deducting Hong Kong people’s money, the problem still hasn’t been solved. Since then, there’s 78,000 new cases which over-deducted people’s Octopus cards a total of HK$940,000, or about 260 new cases everyday.

According to authorities, this issue happens because Octopus users put their cards on the sensor too quickly, and move their card away before payment information can be sent. So although the amount has been deducted from Octopus, the reader shows that payment hasn’t been received, causing the user to tap again.
