The police have noted a surge in the number of people falling victim to online naked chat blackmail.
This year there were 99 cases involving blackmail of naked images captured during online chats, compared to just 13 last year.
Among the 99 cases, 34 involved people below the age of 24, with the youngest being 16 years old.
To fight this, the police, alongside the Federation of Youth Groups, have launched a programme called “iSmart” to prevent young people from becoming victims of such crime through education and early intervention. The campaign will launch next month.
