“Wanna change?” Government releases weird 15-second video about universal suffrage in 2017

The Hong Kong government has released an odd video seeming to promote its support for universal suffrage in the 2017 chief executive election on the official universal suffrage campaign’s website, www.2017.gov.hk.

It starts off with dramatic shots of Hong Kong democracy protests, followed by a voiceover saying: “Wanna change? You can have universal suffrage in 2017. Your vote. Don’t cast it away.”

The video is accompanied by a short motivational essay. “Some have decided to speak up,” it says. “Some have chosen to hit the streets or even become involved in conflicts; others are worried but remain silent.” And so, they urge us to “seize the opportunity” to achieve universal suffrage so that “we will no longer be bystanders”. So they’re all for Occupy Central then it seems?
