Proven scientifically to make drivers instantly attractive to the opposite sex, a new batch of personalized registration plates will go under the hammer next month.
Announcing an upcoming number plate auction this afternoon, the Transport Department (TD) released a glimpse of some new letter and number combinations for motorists who want people know: yes, I have a nice car AND I had some money left over.
The auction will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai on September 22 and 23.
On offer are some usual suspects: a lot of combinations involving the number eight, some names, and some car brands.
Among the slightly more unusual plates spotted were “WAFFLE”and “EYE CARE”, two combinations that will presumably be snapped up by a breakfast-food loving husband and his optometrist wife.
There was also “MYCALBEE”, presumably for someone who is a huge fan of Calbee chips, and “SYLAR,” possibly a reference to the main villain in the TV show Heroes – a plate that’s sure to turn heads right?
Hongkongers fork out a lot of money for number plates, especially when they contain lucky numbers like eight or even the letter “V” short for victory.
In February, a registration plate with the letters “VV” went under the hammer for HK$9.3 million (US$1.18million), making it the sixth-highest auction price for a car registration plate.
