(Video) Woman sent to hospital after being hit by car near Lion Rock Tunnel

A 37-year-old woman was taken to hospital this weekend after she was hit by a car while trying to cross a road near Lion Rock Tunnel.

According to hk01a 37-year-old male driver surnamed Chan was driving out of the tunnel towards Sha Tin at about 2:30pm on Saturday when suddenly, the car in front of him hit their brake lights and swerved right.

As the car in front swerved, Chan sees a woman wearing a purple jacket standing in the middle of the road. He tries to avoid her by swerving left, but ends up hitting her with his car.

The car then stops and Chan can be heard saying: “What is she doing walking around here?”

The female passenger then says: “Get out of the car and check on her, ask if she’s OK then call the police, don’t let her get away.”

Chan can be heard saying “crazy” as he gets back into the car and sets off. In the distance, tunnel staff in navy blue jackets can be seen running down the road to see if the woman is OK.

The woman was later sent to the Prince of Wales Hospital with injuries to her head and hands.

Apple Daily reported that the woman standing in the middle of the road is not a member of tunnel staff, and police are investigating how the woman got onto the road in that area to begin with.

Dash cam video of the incident was uploaded online, prompting netizens to criticize either the driver for driving too fast, or the woman for trying to cross a part of the road that is not open for pedestrian use.

According to barrister Albert Luk, who spoke to Ming Pao, under the Road Traffic Ordinance, any pedestrian who uses any road and negligently endangers their own safety and that of any other person can be fined HK$500 (US$64).
