VIDEO: TVB reality show criticized for being really, really mean to unfortunate women

TVB’s brand-new reality show, “Nowhere Girls”, follows seven women, all of whom have been deemed for various reasons to be going nowhere. The selected women then receive “help” from a whole range of experts, including life coaches, makeup artists, therapists and physical trainers to turn their lives around.

One contestant for example is a recent immigrant from mainland China, while another is too lazy to get a job. As one might expect, the show is rife with opportunities to be extremely discriminatory and downright mean, and TVB has received 76 complaints so far, according to the SCMP. Not bad for a show that’s only been on the air for five days.

At one point in the TVB promo video for the show, a presumed therapist says to a contestant: “Are you used to constantly lying? If that’s the case then you really have a major problem.” The contempt is just dripping off his face as he says it.

In another scene another “consultant” who seems to be trying to make a contestant look better points at her teeth on a TV screen: “Look at your teeth! Why is there always something stuck to your teeth?”

Ouch. This sounds like everyone’s worst nightmare.
