In this slightly cringe-inducing segment from CCTV, Li Jiejun brings viewers around the Hong Kong Food Expo as she excitedly and loudly describes the smorgasbord of food on display in her endearing, heavily accented English, making sure that her voice carries over the loud din of the expo.
“Ice cream is always popular with hot Hongkongers, but seafood flavour is going too far. Isn’t it?” she says in a voiceover, before she samples some Alaskan king crab-flavoured ice cream.
“This is not your ordinary ice cream. It’s made from genuine Alaska king crab. So how about the taste?”
Li takes an eager bite of the dessert, and declares with a thumb’s up: “It’s salty, not sweet, and you can feel minced crab inside. Very special!”
We can’t help but be won over by her careful enunciation and high-volume enthusiasm. CCTV, we’d definitely watch more of your news segments if Li anchored all of them.
