Local NGO Ocean Recovery Alliance published a video today about the various threats that the local Chinese white dolphins (also known as pink dolphins for their rosy colouring) face in our waters.
The pink dolphin population in Hong Kong has dropped drastically over the past decade, plummeting from 158 to 61 individuals—a decrease of 60%. The NGO puts at least partial blame on the construction of the Zhuhai-Macau bridge.
As for the planned construction of a third runway at Hong Kong airport, they question whether the proposed environmental mitigation plan of creating a marine park north of Lantau is really going to be effective if it is only going to be created after the construction is over.
