The only balls you generally expect to see at IKEA are of the Swedish meat variety. Sadly, that wasn’t the case yesterday for shoppers outside the homewares giant’s Causeway Bay branch, who got an unwanted eyeful of the other kind.
According to Apple Daily, a one meter-long screen stationed outside the store displayed a video of a naked man masturbating for several minutes.
An eyewitness surnamed Chan — who sent video of the screen to the newspaper — said he spotted the video at about 12:45pm, which at points even offered a close-up of the mystery man’s genitals.
Chan told the newspaper that he had witnessed the porn playing for a solid three minutes, before finally going inside to tell oblivious IKEA staff members about the increasingly horrifying spectacle outside.
Shortly afterwards, a female member of staff came out, and instead of unplugging the screen, attempted to cover it with a small towel.
Chan told the newspaper yesterday: “It’s a public holiday today, there were lots of people in the area, and it scared a lot of the children walking by.” Entirely understandable, given that your first exposure to the male member in its full tumescent glory rarely happens on a Causeway Bay sidewalk.
When an Apple Daily reporter arrived at the store later that day, they found that staff had eventually managed to unplug the TV screen, and that there were 25 similar screens inside the store operating as normal.
At this point, no one knows how the video of the naked man ended up playing on the main screen, and an IKEA spokesperson told Coconuts HK today that they were very sorry about the incident, and that they were investigating what happened.
