In the face of increasing pressure from Beijing and the erosion of Hong Kong freedoms, two pro-democracy lawmakers have resorted to the only form of expression they have left — dance.

Civic Party lawmakers Tanya Chan and Alvin Yeung posted this fun video of themselves dancing in the middle of the Tung Po restaurant in North Point on Friday.

The video – which was posted on Chan’s Facebook account and Yeung’s Instagram account – collectively together garnered more than 200,000 views over the weekend.

In a week of serious political developments from the commotion over rule changes to legislative council procedures to the pro-democracy camp stalling debate on a controversial joint checkpoint, it’s nice to see two otherwise very serious politicians let their hair down.

Tung Po is a restaurant located inside a cooked food center and wet market. However unlike others, it has a reputation for being “the wildest restaurant in town” because music is played on speakers and guests are allowed to get up and dance.

And for those of you who want to know the name of their song of choice, it’s Not in the Mood for Sleep by ’80s Cantopop legend and actor Leslie Cheung, who you might recognize from Wong Kar-wai’s film Happy Together.
