VIDEO: Hong Kong’s Vinyl Hero talks about his love for ‘black gold’

Why is it that some things become obsolete and disappear into obscurity, like CDs, whereas others become obsolete but somehow remain ever sought-after and cool, like LPs?

One of life’s many mysteries, we suppose.

One Hong Kong dude who seems to have it all figured out however is Paul, who describes himself as the city’s “craziest” record collector in this enchanting little vid by Frank Muñoz.

Claiming his hobby keeps him young because he’s still “living in the 70s”, Paul explains how he started collecting records “like nuts” more than 30 years ago when he moved near a flea market on Kowloon side.

We’re not sure whether he means “like nuts” as in “like crazy”, or “like nuts” as in “I’m kind of a squirrel”, but we hope it’s the latter.

Calling his wax “black gold”, Paul says he’s never happier than when counting his records at night.

OMG, he IS like a squirrel!
